Kerala retains top spot in the latest SDG India Index rankings.

Kerala shares the top spot with Uttarakhand with a composite score of 79 points. It topped the list in ‘zero hunger,’ and quality education, stood second in climate action and third in both gender equality, and ‘industry, innovation, and infrastructureKerala has retained its top ranking in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index brought out by the Niti Aayog, sharing the top spot in the 2023-24 edition with Uttarakhand with a composite score of 79 points.

         Kerala excelled in clean water and sanitation, securing the top position, underscoring its commitment to sustainable development.

          It also ranked high in affordable and clean energy, demonstrating comprehensive progress towards achieving sustainable development goals.

IAF conducted 'Bambi Bucket' Operation to douse Nainital forest fire.

Indian Air Force’s MI 17 V5 helicopter was deployed on Saturday (April 27) to extinguish the raging forest fires in Nainital district, Uttarakhand, according to the state’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.The helicopter used a “Bambi Bucket”, also known as a helicopter bucket or a helibucket, to collect water from Bhimtal lake, located near Nainital, and poured it over the burning forests. Bambi Bucket is a specialised aerial firefighting tool which has been in use since the 1980s. It is essentially a lightweight collapsible container that releases water from underneath a helicopter to targeted areas. The water is released by using a pilot-controlled valve.

The Technology Development Board (TDB) has partnered with Remine India Private Limited to establish a commercial plant for recycling lithium-ion batteries (LIB) and e-waste using indigenous technology in Uttarakhand.

The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the science & technology ministry has partnered with Remine India Private Limited to establish a commercial plant for recycling lithium-ion batteries (LIB) and e-waste using indigenous technology in Uttarakhand. This move aims to enhance circularity and lessen the country's reliance on imported critical mineral resources. Moreover, e-waste poses a substantial challenge, with approximately 78% of it not being collected in India. The Technology Development Board signed a deal with Remine India Private Limited to establish the recycling plant in Sitarganj, Uttarakhand, with a total project cost of Rs 15 crore. TDB has committed financial assistance of Rs 7.5 crore towards the project, emphasizing a significant step towards sustainable development and environmental responsibility.

         Presently, a large portion of LIBs, about 95%, end up in landfills without recycling, while only 5% undergo the process.

          The lithium-ion battery recycling market is expected to grow significantly, reaching close to $15 billion by 2030, showing a compound annual growth rate of 21.6%.

          In 2021, the market size was $3.8 billion.
