India-Mongolia Joint Military Exercise Begins In Meghalaya.

The 16th edition of India-Mongolia joint military exercise, Nomadic Elephant, commenced at Foreign Training Node, Umroi, near here on Wednesday. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted on July 16, reports Manosh Das. The Indian contingent comprising 45 personnel is being represented by a battalion of Sikkim Scouts along with personnel from other arms and services.

Prem Singh Tamang sworn in as CM of Sikkim for 2nd term.

The ceremony, which started at 4.30pm, was attended by special invitees and more than 30,000 people from all over the Himalayan state. The state government ordered the closure of all educational institutions in and around Gangtok as a security measure. A half-day holiday was also declared at all government offices and PSUs in the area following an order issued by chief secretary V B Pathak. SKM secured a landslide victory in the assembly elections, winning 31 of the state’s 32 seats that went to polls on April 19 along with general election in the sole Lok Sabha constituency of the state. The opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), headed by former chief minister Pawan Chamling, won only one. The results were declared on June 4.

         Governor Lakshman Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his council of ministers at a ceremony at Gangtok’s Paljor stadium.

Asian Development Bank Approves USD 148 Million Loan To Improve Power Supply In Sikkim.

Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 148.5 million loan to help modernise and enhance the reliability, quality and resilience of electricity supply in Sikkim.This project fully supports Sikkim’s Power for All initiative, ensuring round-the-clock uninterrupted access to quality electricity for households, industries, businesses, and the public, ADB said in a statement on Thursday.The project will modernise Sikkim’s power distribution system by upgrading it with approximately 770 kilometres of climate-resilient medium-voltage underground and/or covered conductors, it added.Additionally, it will replace 580 kilometres of ageing and low-capacity bare conductors with new ones to increase distribution network capacity, the statement said.

         Upgrade 26 power substations and install a supervisory control and data acquisition system.

          Install 15,000 public streetlights in remote areas and conduct safety awareness programs in 28 villages.

Trishakti Corps, Indian Army, conducted a training exercise on Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) firing at a Super High-Altitude Area of 17,000 Feet in Sikkim. Missile Firing Detachments from Mechanized and Infantry Units of the entire Eastern Command participated in the training exercise. The training exercise encompassed comprehensive continuity training and live firing from different platforms on moving as well as static targets, depicting battlefield conditions. The ATGM Detachments demonstrated the capability to neutralize armored threats with unparalleled lethality, ensuring mission success in treacherous mountains. The ATGM system’s performance in high-altitude environments reaffirms the aim of “Ek Missile Ek Tank” and showcased the accuracy and effectiveness of the ATGM system in Super High-Altitude terrain.

NDDB chief Meenesh Shah has been unanimously elected as chairman of National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Ltd (NCDFI). NCDFI has also elected 8 directors on its board unopposed. 8 directors on the Board unopposed which include, Dr Meenesh Shah, Jharkhand Milk Federation; Dr. Mangal Jit Rai, Sikkim Milk Union; Shamalbhai B. Patel, Gujarat Milk Federation; Randhir Singh, Haryana Milk Federation; K. S Mani, KeralaMilk Federation; Balachandra L. Jarakiholi, Karnataka Milk Federation; Narinder Singh Shergill, Punjab Milk Federation and Sameer Kumar Parida, West Assam Milk Union. Apart from these elected directors, Shri S. Regupathi, Executive Director, NDDB is the nominated director on the Board of NCDFI. Dr. Meenesh Shah has long been acknowledged for his pivotal role and substantial contributions to the dairy cooperative sector, fostering growth and sustainability over the years.
