The defence research and development organisation on Tuesday conducted successful test-firing of the indigenously develop Man-Portable Anti Tank Guided Missile (MP-ATGM). The test took place at a field firing range located in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, DRDO officials said. The MP-ATGM is a portable, shoulder-launched missile system designed to neutralize enemy tanks and armored vehicles.

India's Indigenous Light Tank Prototype Ready for Trials.

In a much needed break, India’s indigenous light tank has completed the prototype development stage under Project Zorawar. Developed by DRDO and L&T, the tank will now undergo an array of trials before its induction into the military by 2027. Sagar Defence Engineering Secures Contract from DRDO to Develop Cutting-Edge ULUAVs.

In a significant boost to India’s military capabilities, Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd. from Pune has secured a contract from the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Technology Development Fund (TDF) to develop Underwater Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (ULUAVs). The contract was officially signed between Dr Nidhi Bansal, Director of TDF, and Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in the presence of Dr GA Srinivasa Murthy, Director of the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad along with the PMMG team, DRDL, and the user, a representative from the Directorate of Submarine Acquisition (DSMAQ) of the Indian Navy. This highlights the collaborative effort to propel India’s defence technology to new heights.

         The development of an Underwater Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ULUAV) by Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd., designed to launch autonomously from a moving submarine, featuring high endurance and long range to provide a significant element of surprise.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders surges 6% on lowest bid of Rs 500 cr for DRDO contract.

Shares of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) soared up to 6 percent on June 7 after the company emerged as the lowest bidder for a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) contract. The contract, worth around Rs 500 crore encompasses building research vessel for the DRDO. It is also worth noting that GRSE is yet to bag the order as the contract is currently under negotiation and has not yet been signed.

         GRSE, which rebounded strongly post the election result meltdown, has recovered most of its losses, backed by optimism around government policies and its focus on defence indigenisation.

          At 10.55 am, shares of GRSE were trading at Rs 1,348.15, up 3.85 percent on the NSE.

IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation, inaugurates DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has joined hands with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to establish a DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA CoE) on its campus for interdisciplinary research in next-generation defence technologies.

DRDO chief Samir V Kamat gets one-year extension.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday extended the tenure of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Samir V Kamat by a year. According to the government order, Kamat, who was appointed to the top DRDO post on August 26, 2022, will continue in the position till May 31, 2025, following a defence ministry proposal.

         Samir V Kamat, who was appointed DRDO chief on August 26, 2022, was granted extension in service for one year from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025.

LANDMARK ACHIEVEMENT: DMSRDE DEVELOPS RAMJET FUEL FOR ADVANCED AIR-BREATHING ENGINE.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) announced in a recent tweet on X that the Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE) has developed liquid Ramjet fuel for an advanced air-breathing engine. Calling it a ‘landmark achievement’, DRDO further informed that the fuel was tested successfully at the Ramjet Testbed at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) on May 8. Kadet Defence Systems (KDS) has launched India’s first Loitering Aerial Munitions (LAM) for the Indian Armed Forces. Under a unique Development cum Production Partner (DCPP) model with the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), KDS has unveiled a game-changing array of cutting-edge technologies aimed at enhancing the operational efficacy of the Indian armed forces. These LAM systems encompass cutting-edge technologies, including Canister Aerial Loitering Munition (CALM), Combat UAVs with stand-off capabilities, and Tactical VTOL UAVs. Kadet has secured a contract to deliver over 50 LAM systems by year-end, meeting the operational requirements of the Indian armed forces. These indigenous LAMs, designed and manufactured entirely in India, boast adaptability to various terrains and altitudes, with over 90 per cent of components domestically sourced.

         Kadet plans to scale up production to deliver approximately 5,000 systems within the next 2–3 years to meet the soaring demand.

This canister-based missile system incorporates several advanced subsystems, including a two-stage solid propulsion system, electromechanical actuator system, and precision inertial navigation system. This jacket is based on a new design approach where novel material along with new processes has been used. DRDO's Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur has successfully developed the lightest bulletproof jacket in the country for protection against 7.62 x 54 R API (level 6 of BIS 17051) ammunition. Recently, this bulletproof jacket was successfully tested at TBRL, Chandigarh as per BIS 17051-2018. The front hard armour panel (HAP) of this jacket "defeats multiple hits (six shots) of 7.62x54 R API (sniper rounds) in both ICW (in-conjunction with) and standalone design. The areal density of ICW hard armour panel (HAP) and standalone HAP is less than 40 kg/m2 and 43 kg/m2 respectively.

The HAL, Lucknow has already made preparations for the production of these units for the current 83 LCA Tejas Mk1A order. The Secondary Flight Control of LCA-Tejas, comprising Leading Edge Slats and Airbrakes, now boasts state-of-the-art Servo-Valve based electro-hydraulic servo actuators and control modules.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight-test of Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful flight-test of Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. During the test, all subsystems performed as per expectation. The missile performance was monitored by several Range Sensors like Radar, Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and Telemetry deployed by ITR at different locations to ensure complete coverage of the flight path. The flight of the missile was also monitored from the Su-30-Mk-I aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The missile followed the desired path using way point navigation and demonstrated very low altitude sea-skimming flight. This successful flight test has also established the reliable performance of the indigenous propulsion system developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru.

         The missile is developed by Bengaluru-based DRDO laboratory Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) along with contribution from other laboratories and Indian industries.

A state-of-the-art Submersible Platform for Acoustic Characterization and Evaluation (SPACE) was inaugurated by Secretary of Defence (R&D) and Chairman of DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat at the Underwater Acoustic Research Facility, Kulamavu, in Idukki, Kerala.

A state-of-the-art Submersible Platform for Acoustic Characterization and Evaluation (SPACE) was inaugurated by Secretary of Defence (R&D) and Chairman of DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat at the Underwater Acoustic Research Facility, Kulamavu, in Idukki, Kerala. The Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory of DRDO set up the SPACE. This facility is a center for testing and evaluating sonar systems used by the Indian Navy on different types of vessels, including ships, submarines, and helicopters. The facility is made up of two structures: a floating platform on the water's surface and a submersible platform that can be lowered up to 100 meters. The SPACE will mainly be utilized to evaluate complete sonar systems, allowing for quick deployment and easy recovery of scientific packages such as sensors and transducers.
