Andhra Pradesh (AP) Finance Minister Bugna Rajendranath presented the annual budget for the financial year 2023-2024 (FY24) with a financial outlay of Rs2,79,279 crore in the state assembly in Amaravati, AP. He presented the annual budget for the 5th consecutive time. The budget for FY23 was Rs2.56 lakh crore. Rs54,228 crore has been allocated for Direct Benefit Schemes (DBT), which is an increase of 11% over the previous yearβs Rs48,668 crore. A total of 22 schemes come under the DBT category and most of them have seen an increase in their budget allocation. Rs15,882 crore has been earmarked for Health and Family Welfare, Price Stabilization Fund (Rs3,000 crore), Manabadi Nadu-Nedu (Rs3,500 crore) and Panchayati Raj and Rural Development (Rs15,873 crore). Rs9,381 crore has been allocated for Scheduled Castes component (Rs20,005 crore), Scheduled Tribe component (Rs6,929 crore), Backward Classes component (Rs38,605 crore), Municipal Administration and Urban Development. Under welfare of communities, Rs4,887 crore is for Kapu welfare and minority welfare (Rs4,203 crore). Housing for the poor was allocated Rs5,600 crore, roads and buildings department (Rs9,118 crore), irrigation (Rs11,908 crore), energy (Rs6,456 crore), village and ward secretariats (Rs3,858 crore) and others. Other major allocations include Amma Vadi (Rs6,500 crore); Man Badi Nadu Nedu (Rs3,500 crore); YSR Insurance (Rs372 crore). There is a budget of Rs3,606 crore for industries and commerce.

Accordingly, the card offers personal accident insurance coverage upto Rs2 lakh per annum and the joining and annual fees for the first year has been waived. The 'Pudhumai Penn' scheme of the government aims to enhance the enrolment ratio of girls from government schools to higher educational institutions. Through this scheme, financial assistance of Rs1,000 per month would be provided to ever girl till the completion of their degree course.

Out of the total proposals, Indian Navy proposals constitute more than Rs56,000 crore, which largely includes indigenous BrahMos missiles, Shakti Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, Utility Helicopters-Maritime etc. This additional procurement of BrahMos missile system will enhance the maritime strike capabilities & Anti-Surface Warfare Operation. Similarly, Shakti EW systems will equip and modernise the frontline Naval ships to counter any Naval Operations by the adversaries.

Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate in developing skilled personnel by imparting training to rural poor youth and womenβs for the Ayush healthcare system under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya-Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). It is a historic step to make Lakhpati Didis, women with annual earnings of Rs1 lakh and more, from the Self-Help Groups. Apart from this a course for training rural youth as panchakarma technicians/assistants will be started on a pilot basis. The MoU valid for three years. The training program undertaken under this MoU shall be funded as per Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) cost norms. Both sides also agreed to set up a Joint Working Group, through which other activities of mutual interest may be identified and jointly worked upon by the Ministry of Rural Development & Ministry of Ayush.

The Gujarat government has planned to translocate 40 adult and sub-adult lions to the Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in the state, according to a new report by Wildlife Institute of India (WII) under the Union Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change. Barda sanctuary, about 100 kilometres away from Gir National Park, has been identified as a potential site to accommodate the Asiatic Lions. As per the last count in 2020, there are 674 lions in the state and Gir has long been overflowing with the big cats.

The exercise would witness representation by an Indian Navy P8I, along with P8A of the US Navy, P1 from the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force, CP 140 from the Royal Canadian Air Force and P3C from the RoKN. The Exercise aims to achieve high levels of synergy and coordination between the friendly navies, which is based on their shared values and commitment to an open, inclusive Indo-Pacific.

Users can now pay to any UPI QR code or any UPI ID using their OmniCard wallet balance without exposing their bank accounts. @OMNI UPI amplifies safety by ensuring a layer that limits the risk of amount a user adds to their OmniCard wallet rather than exposing life savings stored in the bank accounts. OmniCard is an RBI-licensed PPI offering Indiaβs 1st Omnichannel spending platform with UPI services for individuals as well as businesses. Under the rules, QRTAs or qualified RTAs are required to comply with enhanced responsibilities through adoption and implementation of an internal policy framework and periodic reporting requirements. SEBI clarified that an RTA would be categorised as QRTA if at any time during a financial year, the combined number of physical and demat folios being serviced by the RTA for listed companies exceeds 2 crore. In case of the categorisation as a QRTA, an intimation needs to be sent by the RTA within 5 working days to SEBI. The new circular would come into force with immediate effect.

The Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog presented a deficit budget of Rs935.23 crore for the financial year 2023-24, with the aim of increasing self-employment avenues for youths in the state.
The Assam finance minister Ajanta Neog presented a deficit budget of Rs935.23 crore for the financial year 2023-24, with the aim of increasing self-employment avenues for youths in the state. In the current budget, an amount of Rs5000 crore has been earmarked to provide financial help to 200,000 unemployed youths to set up industries and become job creators. The aggregate receipts for 2022-23 were Rs321,742 crore, while the aggregate expenditure is estimated at Rs321,081 croreβ resulting in a surplus of nearly Rs661 crore for the financial year 2023-24. This, together with the opening deficit of Rs1596 crore, will lead to a budget deficit of Rs935 crore at the end of the year 2023-24. The governmentβs annual expenditure has increased from Rs1.06 lakh crore in 2021-22 and is expected to reach Rs1.22 lakh crore in 2022-23. In 2023-24, the total expenditure is aimed at reaching a record Rs1.39 lakh crore with Rs28,418 crore towards capital expenditure.

There is an increase of 18.05 percent in this year's total budget expenditure and a rise of 21.16 percent in capital expenditure as compared to last financial year. Uttarakhand is the first state in the country where every family enjoys the facility of cashless or free treatment under Atal Ayushman Yojana for which an allocation of 400 crore rupees has been made in the budget.

In 2021-22, the milk production has registered an annual growth rate of 5.29 percent. Top five major milk-producing states are Rajasthan (15.05%), Uttar Pradesh (14.93%), Madhya Pradesh (8.06%), Gujarat (7.56%) and Andhra Pradesh (6.97%). As per the data, in 2021-22, the total egg production in the country stood at 129.60 billion nos, up 6.19 percent as compared to previous year. Total five major egg-producing states are Andhra Pradesh (20.41%), Tamil Nadu (16.08%), Telangana (12.86%), West Bengal (8.84%) and Karnataka (6.38%). The total meat production in the country is 9.29 million tonnes for the year 2021-22 with an annual growth rate of 5.62 percent. The total five major meat producing States are Maharashtra (12.25%), Uttar Pradesh (12.14%), West Bengal (11.63%), Andhra Pradesh (11.04%), and Telangana (10.82%). The per-capita availability of milk is 444 gram/day during 2021-22. In 2021-22, the per-capita availability of egg is 95 nos per annum.

Under the MoU, which was signed in Abu Dhabi, the two central banks will collaborate on various emerging areas of FinTech, especially Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and explore interoperability between the CBDCs of CBUAE and RBI. They will conduct proof-of-concept and pilot tests of the bilateral CBDC bridge to facilitate cross-border transactions of remittances and trade. This collaboration is expected to increase efficiency and reduce costs in cross-border transactions, furthering the economic ties between India and UAE.

The objective of the GNHCP is to demonstrate green and safe highways keeping in view climate resilience and the use of green technologies by incorporating the provisions of conservation of natural resources using cement-treated sub-base/reclaimed asphalt pavement, use of local material.

The highlight of the festival is the unveiling of the Bhumchu, a small brass pot that is only opened once a year. The pot is filled with water and sealed with a wooden stopper, and according to local belief, the water level inside the pot predicts the fortunes of the community in the coming year. The higher the water level, the better the harvest and overall prosperity for the region.

The flight tests were carried out from a ground-based man portable launcher against high speed unmanned aerial targets. VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) meant for neutralising low altitude aerial threats at short ranges. It has been designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Indian Industry Partners.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented supplementary budget of Rs13,141.07 crore in the Vidhan Sabha for the year 2022-23. The supplementary budget included Rs11,707.68 crore for state schemes, Rs1,433.39 crore for Centrally-sponsored schemes. The grants include Rs284.79 crore for the Sukh Ashray Kosh announced by his government. The money would be spent on the construction of a Sukh Ashray Bhawan and granting social security pensions. The other major expenditures proposed were for meeting committed financial liabilities of the government such as Rs6,004.63 crore for the repayment of Ways and Means - Advance/ Overdraft and Rs1,260.65 crore for pensions and other retirement benefits. The other expenditures include Rs551.48 crore for power subsidy, Rs444.03 crore for the construction of hospitals and the Himcare scheme, Rs435.08 for the construction of colleges and senior secondary schools and Rs289.38 crore as assistance to the State Transport Corporation. The major heads under which funds had been received under Central schemes include Rs400 crore for disaster relief, Rs221.96 crore for MGNREGA, Rs140.91 crore for Covid 19 emergency response and preparedness and Rs47 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana.

The Government of India has appointed Deepak Mohanty as the Chairperson of Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). He replaced Supratim Bandyopadhyay, whose term ended in January 2023. Prior to this, Mohanty, a former executive director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), served as a member of PFRDA. Mohanty was appointed PFRDA member (Economic) in August 2020 for a period of three years or till attaining the age of 62 years.

Hosted by the Indian Army, the exercise involved soldiers from the 42nd Battalion, Singapore Armoured Regiment and an Armoured Brigade of Indian Army. Both contingents not only learnt about each otherβs operating drills and procedure, but also exchanged ideas and best practices being followed in a modern combat zone.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation declined to a 25-month low of 3.85 percent in February 2023 on easing prices of manufactured items and fuel and power. This is the 9th straight month of decline in WPI-based inflation. It was 4.73 percent in January, 4.95 percent in December 2022, 5.85 percent in November last year, and 13.43 percent in February 2022. The food index inflation eased to 2.76 percent in February from 2.95 percent in January. Inflation in food articles, however, rose to 3.81 percent in February, as against 2.38 percent in January. Inflation in pulses came in at 2.59 percent, while in vegetables was (-) 21.53 percent. Inflation in oil seeds was (-) 7.38 percent, while in fruits was 7.02 percent last month. Fuel and power basket inflation eased to 14.82 percent, from 15.15 percent in January 2023. In Manufactured products, it was 1.94 percent in February 2023 as compared to 2.99 percent in January.

Chad in central Africa had replaced Bangladesh as the country with the most polluted air last year. Lahore's air quality worsened to 97.4 micrograms of PM2.5 particles per cubic meter from 86.5 in 2021, making it the most polluted city globally. IQAir measures air quality levels based on the concentration of lung-damaging airborne particles known as PM2.5. Its annual survey is widely cited by researchers and government organisations. Hotan, the only Chinese city in the top 20, followed Lahore with PM2.5 levels of 94.3, an improvement from 101.5 in 2021. The next two cities in the rankings were Indian: Bhiwadi, on Delhi's outskirts had pollution levels at 92.7, and Delhi followed close behind at 92.6. India has some of the most polluted cities in the world, but ranked 8th in the latest report, with PM2.5 levels at 53.3.

It was earlier classified as βInvestment and Credit Company (ICC)β. With the IFC status, IREDA will be able to take higher exposure in RE financing. The IFC status will also help the company to access wider investor base for fund mobilisation, resulting in competitive rates for fund raising. The grant of IFC status is a recognition of IREDAβs 36 years of infrastructure financing and development with focused development of Renewable Energy. With IFC status, IREDA will keep contributing towards Govt of Indiaβs target of 500 GW installed capacity of non-fossil fuels by 2030.

It is a joint initiative by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Ashok Leyland and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The 10-tonne prototype truck has been built for drivability assessment and durability trials. It is Indiaβs first and world's second 100 percent methanol (M100) prototype truck.

It includes developmental expenditure to the tune of 41,491 crore rupees. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary presented a statement of estimated receipt and expenditure of Jammu and Kashmir for 2023-24 in the House. The expected revenue receipts are Rs1,06,061 crore, while revenue expenditure is expected to be Rs77,009 crore, leaving a revenue surplus of Rs29,052 crore for capital expenditure. Besides, he also presented a statement showing the Supplementary Demands for Grants for Jammu and Kashmir for the years 2022-23. Under it, the Government has sought an additional 3,711 crore rupees for the Union Territory as part of the supplementary demands for grants.

Indian Bank has hiked the interest rate on FDs with tenure of 2 years to less than 3 years by 20 basis points (bps) from 6.50% to 6.70%. Interest rates on FDs with other tenures remain unchanged. Indian Bank offers an additional rate of interest of 0.50% per annum for amounts up to Rs10 crore for senior citizens. The highest interest rate offered is 7.2% on a tenure of 2 years to less than 3 years. The highest interest rate of 7.45% is offered to super senior citizen on tenure of 2 years to less than 3 years.
Indian Bank launched a new retail term deposit βIND SUPER 400 DAYSβ offering a slightly higher interest rate to women depositors.
Special Retail Term Deposit Product βIND SUPER 400 DAYSβ has been launched with effect from 6 March 2023 offering higher rate of interest for investment starting from Rs10,000 to less than 2 Crore for 400 days in the form of FD/MMD with callable options.
Under this scheme, the bank offers 0.05 percent higher interest rate to women investors. The scheme is valid till April 30, 2023.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed an agreement with Euronav to secure the purchase of a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) as part of the UN-coordinated operation to remove more than a million barrels of oil from a decaying tanker off Yemenβs Red Sea coast. The replacement vessel is now in drydock for modifications and regular maintenance before sailing to the FSO Safer, moored about nine kilometers off Yemenβs Ras Isa peninsula. It is expected to arrive in early May for the operation. A major spill would devastate fishing communities on Yemenβs Red Sea coast, likely wiping out 200,000 livelihoods instantly. Whole communities would be exposed to life-threatening toxins. Highly polluted air would affect millions.
