DIID, MOSPI, and IIIT-Delhi Sign MoU to Enhance India's Statistical Ecosystem.

The Data Informatics and Innovation Division (DIID) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Delhi) as part of the Data Innovation Lab (DIL) initiative. This collaboration aims to modernize India’s National Statistical System (NSS).


      - The partnership seeks to bridge government and academia, using academic expertise to address real-world challenges and bring fresh ideas into India’s statistical system.


      - As the statistical landscape evolves, new methods such as data integration, real-time analytics, and predictive modeling are being introduced to tackle emerging issues.

     

Main Point :-   (i) In July 2024, MOSPI launched the DIL initiative to foster innovation in official statistics and create a research-driven ecosystem.

      (ii) The DI Lab serves as a platform for leveraging emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Big Data Analytics (BDA) to improve data collection, processing, and dissemination.

(iii) The DI Lab has partnered with top academic institutions, reaching over 100 institutions, and has signed MoUs with several reputed institutions, including prominent Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

SIDBI and TIDITSSIA Ink MoU to Boost Local Industries.

In January 2025, the Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh-based Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Tiruchirapalli District Tiny & Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA) to foster mutual cooperation and support local industries.


      - The signing ceremony was attended by Pyda Rama Krishna, Assistant General Manager (AGM) of SIDBI, J.P. Jagadish, Branch Manager of SIDBI, P. Rajappa, President of TIDITSSIA, along with other dignitaries.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) Under the MoU, SIDBI will conduct capacity-building training for selected office-bearers and staff of TIDITSSIA, offer support to the association’s members, and organize buyer-seller meetings.

      (ii) The initiative will assist around 450 members in securing business loans at an interest rate approximately 1% lower than those offered by other financial institutions.

AIonOS India Signs MoU with Indosat to Accelerate AI Growth in Indonesia.

In January 2025, New Delhi (Delhi)-based AIonOS India Private Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH), a leading Indonesian digital telecommunications company, to revolutionize Indonesia’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem.


      - This partnership marks the first large-scale AI-focused collaboration between India and Indonesia under a visionary Government-to-Government (G2G) initiative.


      - The MoU aims to leverage AI’s potential to drive innovation, boost economic growth, and foster socio-cultural transformation in Indonesia.

      - AIonOS, founded in April 2024, is a joint venture between InterGlobe and Assago Group, dedicated to transforming businesses into AI-driven enterprises.

Main Point :-   (i) The collaboration between Indosat and AIonOS focuses on reshaping Indonesia's digital economy through AI technology, with applications in tourism, knowledge economy, and sustainable agriculture. The goal is to drive innovation and strengthen Indonesia's global networks.

      (ii) The partnership aims to develop an AI-skilled workforce by collaborating with top educational institutions. It will also use AI to boost agricultural productivity and improve climate resilience, supporting local farmers and enhancing food security in Indonesia.

(iii) Indosat and AIonOS will establish a Centre of Excellence in Jakarta, in collaboration with China-based DeepSeek, a company specializing in AI technology. DeepSeek's open-source AI model, DeepSeek-R1, launched in January 2025, aims to compete with major players like OpenAI, enhancing AI capabilities in areas such as mathematical reasoning and code generation.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) Sign MoU to Set Up CoEET in Hyderabad.

On January 24, 2025, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power (MoP), and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) at TERI's Institute of Energy Transition (IOET) in Hyderabad, Telangana.


      - The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 25 crore, with BEE providing Rs. 5 crore annually for five years to assist in the Centre’s establishment and operations. TERI will contribute its existing infrastructure at the Hyderabad campus and manage the Centre's operational activities.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Union Minister Manohar Lal (MoP & MoHUA), Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with senior officials from MoP, BEE, TERI, and the Telangana government.

      (ii) Additionally, the Government of India (GoI) has allocated Rs. 488 crore to Telangana for nine new schemes under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).

FIEO and Credlix Forge Partnership to Support Indian Exporters with Financial and Logistical Aid.

In January 2025, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and Singapore-based Credlix, a global leader in supply chain financing solutions, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the growth of Indian exporters and expand their international presence. This partnership is designed to streamline global trade by offering exporters innovative financial solutions, logistical support, and essential resources.


      - The collaboration aims to address key challenges faced by exporters by combining FIEO's extensive network with Credlix’s expertise in financial services.


      - A range of initiatives, including workshops, training, financing advisory, and technological support, will be provided to help businesses enhance their operations effectively.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Under the MoU, Credlix will provide technological and logistical solutions such as warehousing and supply chain management to resolve operational hurdles faced by exporters.

      (ii) FIEO will actively promote the initiative, encourage participation from exporters, and guide businesses in navigating complex international markets.

(iii) In the Financial Year 2023-24 (FY24), the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector contributed 45.73% to India's exports.

NITI Aayog and NASSCOM Foundation have joined forces to digitally empower one lakh individuals.

In January 2025, NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) and the NASSCOM Foundation (National Association of Software and Service Companies) have teamed up to help one lakh people gain digital skills, aiming to bridge the digital divide.


      - This partnership is part of the Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP) and is linked with the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyaan (PMGDISHA) initiative.


      - The project will primarily focus on marginalized groups, including women and tribal communities, to enhance their access to essential digital tools and e-governance services.

     

Main Point :-   (i) In the first phase, the program will focus on 60 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) blocks, promoting digital literacy and awareness of government schemes. Later, it will expand to cover all 500 aspirational blocks to ensure wider digital inclusion.

      (ii)The program will train people aged 12-60 in basic computer skills, cybersecurity, and internet usage.

(iii) Local community members will also be trained as digital ambassadors and trainers. They will conduct door-to-door campaigns and community outreach to raise awareness about the benefits of digital literacy and government schemes.

"India and USA Sign MoU to Enhance Cooperation in Cybercrime Investigation."

In January 2025, the Government of India (GOI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States of America (USA) to enhance collaboration in cybercrime investigations.


      - The MoU was signed by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra and Acting USA Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristie Canegallo in Washington DC, USA.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) This agreement aims to strengthen India-USA security cooperation, addressing interlinked issues such as terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, and other security challenges tied to cybercrime.

      (ii) The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), will oversee the implementation of the agreement in India.

(iii) In the USA, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), along with its agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Center (C3), will manage the pact's execution.

"CSE and NCDEX Sign MoU to Promote Commodities and Derivatives Trading".

On January 20, 2025, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) of Sri Lanka and the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote and enhance commodities and derivatives trading in Sri Lanka.


      - The MoU emphasizes sharing technical expertise between NCDEX and CSE, focusing on product development, trading mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks to benefit traders and market participants in both countries.


      - Assistance will be provided to the Colombo Stock Exchange in establishing advanced trading systems and operational infrastructure for efficient commodity and derivatives trading.

     

Main Point :-   (i) Joint training programs will be conducted to develop personnel skills in areas such as trading systems, technology, and regulations, fostering sustainable market development.

      (ii) This collaboration is expected to strengthen the commodities and derivatives trading ecosystem in Sri Lanka while enhancing bilateral trade relations between the two nations.

ISM, CG Power, and CSPL Sign Fiscal Assistance Agreement.

In January 2025, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited (CG Power), and CG Semi Private Limited (CSPL) signed a Fiscal Support Agreement (FSA) to bolster India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The agreement will support CG Power’s Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility, approved under the Modified Programme for the Development of Semiconductor and Display Manufacturing Ecosystem. e


      - CG Power will set up its semiconductor OSAT unit in Sanand, Gujarat, with a partnership involving Renesas Electronics America Inc. and Stars Microelectronics, investing Rs 7,600 crore.


      - The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) will provide 50% fiscal support for the eligible capital expenditures (CAPEX) of the project, showcasing the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening India’s role in the global semiconductor value chain.

      - This initiative aligns with India’s target of reaching USD 500 billion in electronics production by 2030, a significant step towards realizing the country’s vision.

Main Point :-   (i) CG Power’s semiconductor project will boost India’s global electronics presence, supported by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), launched in 2021 with a Rs 76,000 crore outlay under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity).

      (ii) ISM is set up as an Independent Business Division within Digital India Corporation (DIC), aimed at encouraging investment in semiconductor and display manufacturing.

(iii) Four key schemes are part of ISM, including those for setting up semiconductor fabs, display fabs, compound semiconductors, and semiconductor assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP)/OSAT facilities.

FIU-IND and NHB Sign MoU to Strengthen Coordination and Information Sharing.

In January 2025, the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) under the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the National Housing Bank (NHB) signed an MoU in New Delhi to enhance collaboration in intelligence sharing, capacity building, and risk assessment.


      - The partnership focuses on strengthening the implementation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, and associated rules to combat money laundering and terrorism financing.


      - Both FIU-IND and NHB will appoint nodal and alternate nodal officers to coordinate activities and facilitate smooth collaboration between the two entities.

      - The MoU includes provisions for sharing relevant intelligence and database information to improve oversight and compliance.

Main Point :-   (i) Outreach and training programs will be conducted to enhance the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT) skills of supervised entities, including Housing Finance Companies (HFCs).

      (ii) The entities will supervise and monitor reporting entities' adherence to obligations under the PMLA, PML Rules, and guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and NHB.

(iii) Quarterly meetings will be held to discuss AML/CFT typologies, trends, and red flag indicators for suspicious transactions, along with assessments of risks and vulnerabilities in the housing finance sector.

C-DOT and IIT Bombay Sign Agreement to Develop Optical Transceiver Chipset for High-Bandwidth 6G Wireless Links.

In January 2025, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications (MoC), signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay), Mumbai, to develop an "Optical Transceiver Chipset for High-Bandwidth 6G Wireless Links."


      - The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of C-DOT, Professor Shalabh Gupta, Principal Investigator from IIT Bombay, and C-DOT Directors Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela and Shikha Srivastava.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The collaboration is part of the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) 6G Call for Proposal initiative.

      (ii) The initiative aims to accelerate research in the 6G ecosystem, positioning India as a global leader in the design, development, and deployment of 6G technology by 2030.

(iii) The focus of the initiative is on affordability, sustainability, and ubiquity, ensuring that advanced communication solutions are accessible to everyone.

GHI and H2Carrier have signed a MoU to promote green hydrogen and ammonia solutions.

On January 9, 2025, Greenstat Hydrogen India (GHI) Private Limited, based in New Delhi (Delhi) and a part of the Norwegian renewable energy company Greenstat ASA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with H2Carrier AS (H2C), a company based in Norway. The MoU aims to speed up the development of green hydrogen and ammonia projects in India and Sri Lanka.


      - The MoU focuses on supporting the global energy transition by producing green hydrogen and ammonia in a scalable, cost-effective, and flexible way.


      - The partnership will involve feasibility studies, project identification, and the implementation of green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities, with a special focus on floating production solutions.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The floating production solution will use H2Carrier's P2XFloater technology, which is the world's first floating green ammonia production facility.

      (ii) These projects will help meet the growing demand for green ammonia, which is crucial for clean fuel and decarbonizing industries like shipping, agriculture, and heavy manufacturing.

(iii) GHI was established in 2020 to focus on developing green hydrogen and its derivatives in Asia and the Middle East.

FIU-IND has signed a MoU with IRDAI to strengthen cooperation in the fight against money laundering.

On January 6, 2025, the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations in key areas related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) within the insurance sector.


      - This MoU is part of a broader plan to effectively implement the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) and its associated rules.


      - The IRDAI is a statutory body established by the IRDA Act, 1999, to oversee and promote the development of the insurance sector in India.

      - The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of relevant information and intelligence to ensure prompt action on suspicious activities.

Main Point :-   (i) The MoU was signed by Vivek Aggarwal, Director of FIU-IND, and Satyajit Tripathy, Member (Distribution) of IRDAI, in New Delhi.

      (ii) The MoU establishes guidelines for insurance companies to report suspicious transactions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and includes training programs by FIU-IND and IRDAI to enhance risk identification skills in the insurance sector.

(iii) Regular evaluations will address vulnerabilities in the insurance sector, enhance AML/CFT compliance, and include appointing nodal officers from FIU-IND and IRDAI for implementation oversight.

IRFC signs an MoU with REMCL to finance renewable energy projects for Indian Railways.

On January 3, 2025, the Indian Railway Finance Corporation Limited (IRFC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL), a Joint Venture (JV) between the Ministry of Railways (MoR) and Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES). The purpose of the MoU is to help finance Renewable Energy (RE) projects developed by REMCL to supply power to Indian Railways (IR).


      - The MoU sets up a framework for cooperation between IRFC and REMCL to assist Indian Railways in reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The partnership will also explore funding opportunities for thermal, nuclear, and renewable energy projects established under a captive model, through joint ventures between IR and other partners.

      (ii) As per the MoU, REMCL will support Indian Railways by sourcing affordable conventional and renewable energy and managing the bidding process for RE projects. Meanwhile, IRFC will handle project evaluation and fundraising.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and AIIMS Delhi have signed a MoU to improve medical training for ICG officers.

In December 2024, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the medical training and skills of ICG medical officers.


      - The MoU was signed by Surgeon Commodore Sanjay Dutta on behalf of ICG and Dr. Shailendra Kumar, Coordinator of the Comprehensive Resuscitation Training Centre (CRTC) at AIIMS, during an event held at AIIMS Delhi, New Delhi.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The primary goal of the MoU is to provide specialized training based on Indian guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), equipping ICG personnel with life-saving skills.

      (ii) Under the MoU, AIIMS Delhi will offer structured and advanced training to ICG medical officers, ensuring they are prepared to handle medical emergencies in challenging operational environments.

Assam has signed a MoU with SBI and UBI to provide insurance benefits.

On January 1, 2025, the Government of Assam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) and Union Bank of India (UBI) to provide insurance benefits to state government employees.


      - The goal of this agreement is to offer zero-premium insurance coverage and extra benefits to over four lakh permanent state government employees.


      - The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held in North Lakhimpur, Assam. The Finance Department of Assam was authorized to work with Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs).

      - After discussions with several SCBs, the department selected SBI and UBI for the first phase of partnerships, with immediate effect, and will issue a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure smooth implementation and maximum benefits for employees.

Main Point :-   (i) The Treasury Officer at each district headquarters will serve as the Nodal Officer, coordinating with banks to resolve issues, ensure smooth implementation of salary benefits, and assist employees with insurance claims, while each participating bank will appoint a Nodal Officer, with contact details provided in the SOP issued by the Finance Department of Assam.

      (ii) The insurance provides comprehensive coverage, including Term Life Insurance with a minimum of Rs. 10 lakh for natural death (illness or accidents), Accidental Death Insurance with a minimum of Rs. 1 crore, and Air Accident Insurance with Rs. 2 crore coverage for deaths caused by air crashes.

(iii) It also offers significant protection against disabilities, including Permanent Total Disability Insurance with up to Rs. 1 crore and Permanent Partial Disability Insurance with up to Rs. 80 lakh coverage.

      - The partnership is focused on nurturing DPIIT-recognized startups, particularly in the Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) and manufacturing sectors.


      - Curate dedicated programs and initiatives to mentor startups, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

SIA-India has signed an MoU with Ghana's GSSTI to enhance collaboration in the space sector.

In December 2024, the Satcom Industry Association India (SIA-India), based in New Delhi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSTI) to strengthen cooperation in satellite communications and the broader space industry.


      - This partnership aims to use India's expertise in space technology to help Ghana improve its space capabilities.


      - The MoU focuses on cooperation in satellite manufacturing, satellite launch services, and the development of space applications, benefiting both countries.

      - The partnership includes programs to train Ghanaian space professionals, helping them gain the necessary skills for the growing space sector.

Main Point :-   (i) India and Ghana will collaborate on satellite projects, ground stations, and space-related technologies, creating new opportunities and promoting innovation.

      (ii) The MoU also encourages more Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) collaborations, opening up new opportunities for the private sectors of both countries.

(iii) India's support through programs like the Pan African eNetwork Project, the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, and the India-Africa Partnership Fund will serve as the foundation for this initiative.

UP and Manipur Sign MoU for 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' Initiative.

In December 2024, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Manipur governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' program in Lucknow, UP.


      - The program aims to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between the people of different states/Union Territories (UTs) through the concept of state/UT pairing.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The Uttar Pradesh Department of Tourism and Culture organized the signing ceremony in Lucknow, where Manipur artists performed Thougal Jagoi, a traditional Meitei folk dance, and Thang Ta, a traditional martial art.

      (ii) The MoU between the two states is effective for three years from the signing date and can be extended for another three years if both states agree.

Department of Posts (DoP) and MEA Sign Agreement to Establish 600 Additional POPSKs.

In December 2024, the Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry of Communications (MoC), signed an agreement with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to establish 600 additional Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) at post offices across India.


      - These new POPSKs are expected to be operational by 2028-29.


      - These centres will be spread across India, utilizing the 6,40,000 points of sale under India Post.

     

Main Point :-   (i) By expanding its POPSK network, India Post aims to provide citizen-centric services and establish itself as a logistics company offering postal and life insurance services, alongside Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) and parcel delivery.

      (ii) The POPSK service was launched in 2017. As of December 2024, 442 POPSKs are operational across India.

GSV and IN Signed MoU to Enhance Logistics Education and Research.

In December 2024, Vadodara (Gujarat)-based Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) and the Indian Navy (IN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen education, research, and training in logistics-related fields for the IN.


      - The agreement was signed by Vice Admiral Deepak Kapoor, Controller of Logistics, IN, and Professor Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor, GSV.


      - The partnership aims to enhance the IN's logistical capabilities by emphasizing supply chain management, integrated transportation systems, and sustainable logistics practices.

     

Main Point :-   (i) The MoU facilitates knowledge sharing in cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, and blockchain technology to improve logistics efficiency.

Premier Explosives and Global Munition sign MoU to form a joint venture for the Defence and Aerospace sector.

In December 2024, Premier Explosives Limited (PEL) from Secunderabad, Telangana, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global Munition India Limited (MIL), based in Pune, Maharashtra. MIL is a unit of NIBE Ordnance and Maritime Ltd. (NIBEOM). The MoU aims to establish a joint venture (JV) for the manufacturing of defence and aerospace products.


      - The joint venture will be structured with a 51:49 equity split, where Global Munition Ltd. will hold the majority stake. This strategic move is anticipated to strengthen Premier Explosives' position in the market.

On November 19, 2024, the Headquarters Maintenance Command (HQMC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) formalized a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Bengaluru-based Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) in a ceremony held in Bengaluru through the Base Repair Depot, Panchwati, Palam.


      - This initiative aims to address key challenges faced by the IAF, including radar systems, aircraft, and various Information Technology (IT) communication platforms.


      - The event was attended by Air Vice Marshal VRS Raju (Deputy Senior Maintenance Staff Officer, HQMC), Air Commodore Harsh Bahl (Air Officer Commanding, Base Repair Depot, Panchwati, Palam) on behalf of the IAF, and Captain Sridhar Warrier (Retd.) (Registrar, IISc) and Prof. B. Gurumoorthy (Director, FSID).

Union Cabinet Approves MoU Between GSI and Italy's CNR-IRPI for Advanced Landslide Prediction and Early Warning

The Union Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Italy's Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection (CNR-IRPI) to collaborate on landslide prediction and early warning. This partnership aims to enhance India's Landslide Early Warning Systems (LEWS) to international standards, ensuring better prediction and mitigation of landslide-related damages. The collaboration will focus on developing and operationalizing regional LEWS across India and integrating GSI's data with the PM Gati Shakti initiative.


      - The MoU was approved on December 6, 2024.


      - GSI established a National Landslide Forecasting (NLFC) facility at GSI, Kolkata.

     

(i) NLFC provides live forecast reporting in Kalimpong, Darjeeling, and Nilgiri districts.   (ii) CNR-IRPI is a leading institution in developing regional LEWS models.

Tata Power and Bhutan's DGPC Partner to Develop 5,000 MW Clean Energy Projects.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has entered into a strategic partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC), based in Thimphu, Bhutan, to develop 5,000 MW of clean energy capacity, including 4,500 MW of hydropower and 500 MW of solar power in Bhutan.


      - This collaboration aims to tap into Bhutan’s vast hydropower potential to meet energy demands in both Bhutan and India.


     

     

Main Point :-   (i) The partnership includes the phased development of hydropower projects such as the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Plant (HEP), the 740 MW Gongri Reservoir, the 1,800 MW Jeri Pumped Storage, and the 364 MW Chamkharchhu IV. Additionally, TPREL will oversee the development of 500 MW of solar projects in Bhutan.

Andhra Pradesh (AP) Signs MoU with RIL to Invest Rs 65,000 Crore in 500 CBG Plants.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mumbai (Maharashtra)-based Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to establish 500 compressed biogas (CBG) plants in the state over the next three years.


      - This initiative involves an investment of approximately Rs 65,000 crore, with each plant costing Rs 130 crore.


      - The MoU was signed in the presence of Andhra Pradesh (AP) Chief Minister (CM) N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with representatives of RIL and other state government officials, at the State Secretariat in Amaravati, AP.

      - The project is expected to create approximately 2.5 lakh jobs, both directly and indirectly.

Main Points:-   (i) The plants will be part of Reliance's national target of setting up 2,000 CBG units.

      (ii) This initiative aligns with AP's Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy - 2024, which aims to attract investments worth Rs 10 lakh crore.

(iii) According to GOBARdhan (Galvanising Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan) data, there are only 109 functional CBG/Bio CNG plants in India.

India Inks MOU with Russia for Advanced Pantsir Air Defence Systems.

India's Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), top state-owned defense manufacturer, and Russia's Rosoboronexport (ROB), Russia's main weapons export agency, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to boost India's air defense capabilities, particularly with the acquisition of advanced variants of the Pantsir air defense system from Russia.


      - The MoU was signed at the 5th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC) Subgroup meeting held in Goa.


      - The Pantsir is a Russian self-propelled anti-aircraft gun/missile system (SPAAGM), designed for point-defense.

      - The MOU was inked between BDL's Chairman and Managing Director A Madhavarao (Retired) and Mr Kovalenko German, Deputy Director General of the Naval Department of Rosoboronexport (ROB).

Main Points:-   (i) The Pantsir air defence system is a highly versatile and mobile platform designed to protect military installations from aerial threats, including aircraft, drones, and precision-guided munitions.

      (ii) The system combines short- to medium-range surface-to-air missiles with dual 30 mm automatic cannons, creating a multi-layered defence.

(iii) The Pantsir-S1, equipped with advanced radar and tracking systems, can detect and engage targets up to 36 km away and at altitudes of up to 15 km. It is deployed globally, including in Russia, China, and India, as part of a layered defense strategy alongside longer-range systems like the S-400.

India Signs Agreement to Host BIMSTEC Energy Centre in Bengaluru.

India signed the Host Country Agreement (HCA) for establishing the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Energy Centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This initiative aims at enhanced energy cooperation in the Bay of Bengal and littoral region, including through inter-grid connectivity.


      - The agreement was formalized in New Delhi on 08 November 2024.


      - The Energy Centre will be housed in the premises of the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) Bengaluru and also function as the Secretariat of the BIMSTEC Grid Interconnection Coordination Committee (GICC).

      - The agreement was signed between the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumder, and BIMSTEC Secretary General, Indra Mani Pandey.

Main Points:-   (i) India hosted the first meeting of the Governing Board of BIMSTEC Energy Centre (BEC) on 27 February 2023 at Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru.

      (ii) Indra Mani Pandey participated in the Second Edition of Raisina Down Under 2024 in Canberra, Australia.

(iii) External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reiterated India's dedication to strengthening ties with BIMSTEC during a meeting of foreign ministers.

Indian Railways Signs MoU with Switzerland for Technical Collaboration.

The Indian Railways (IR), under the Ministry of Railways (MoR), has entered into a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications (DETEC) of Switzerland to foster enhanced technical cooperation between the two nations.


      - The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in key areas such as technology sharing, track maintenance, management, and construction, aligning with the Indian government's commitment to modernizing the railway system.


      - Swiss companies will provide specialized machinery, materials, and consultancy services for tunneling projects.

      - The initial MoU, signed on August 31, 2017, for five years, focused on cooperation in areas such as Traction Rolling Stock, Electric Multiple Units (EMU), Passenger and Freight Cars, Tilting Trains, Railway Electrification, Train Scheduling, Railway Station Modernization, Multimodal Transport Solutions, and Tunneling Technology.

Main Points:-   (i) The agreement, finalized through video conferencing, was jointly approved by the Ministry of Railways (MoR) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), focusing on strengthening technical cooperation between India and Switzerland.
